How to Use Aztec Healing Clay for Acne Scars

Aztec healing clay acne scars

Frustratingly, even if you’ve managed to clear your breakouts, acne scars and marks often stay on your skin—seemingly just to remind you about Pimples of the Past.

Aztec healing clay for acne scars can help fade these marks and reduce acne itself if you’re still dealing with breakouts.

It’s a simple, cheap, and well, just nice treatment—and this page will show you how to use it.

Aztec Healing Clay: the natural healer

An ancient natural wonder, “Aztec” healing clay is calcium bentonite clay powder. When you mix it with water it forms a paste which you can use as a face mask or spot treatment (it basically is that simple, step-by-step instructions below).

A number of skin care products contain bentonite clay, however it’s just as easy and often much cheaper to just use the pure powder and mix it yourself.

Why It’s So Good for Acne and Acne Scars

Bentonite clay is full of minerals that work like a “magnet” to draw out impurities from your skin. This natural exfoliating, purifying effect helps reduce breakouts, blackheads, oiliness… and pigmentation (scars)!

It also has a soothing anti-inflammatory effect, and because pimples and cysts are inflammation, you might notice instant results in their appearance after using this clay.

How to Use an Aztec Healing Clay Mask for Acne Scars

You need two basic things:

  1. Aztec Healing Clay Powder
  2. Note: the above is the “original” branded product, or you can just get bentonite clay powder
  3. Water

Step-by-step:

  1. Gently cleanse and dry your skin
  2. In a small bowl mix enough clay with water to form a smooth paste — smooth enough to spread easily but not sloppy/wet
  3. Start with about two tablespoons of clay and add more if needed. Mixing a small amount at a time avoids wasting your product
  4. Apply to your face either with your fingers (a little messy) or a facial brush
  5. Avoid the sensitive eye area — stop at your orbital bone
  6. Leave on for 20minutes
  7. The clay will dry and set, so smiling might be difficult!
  8. Rinse off by adding warm water with your fingers and massaging your face to wet the clay
  9. Keep massaging and concentrate on congested or heavily scarred areas for some extra treatment
  10. Keep removing the clay with warm water. A wash cloth can help here if you’re finding it difficult to remove
  11. Pat your skin dry and apply moisturizer
  12. Use 2–3 times weekly

Tips to Remember When Using Aztec Healing Clay for Acne Scars

Your skin will look “lighter” immediately after using this clay, and should feel very fresh.

By using this at least two times a week you will see some gradual fading and clarification.

Use as a Spot Treatment

Another option is to use bentonite clay as a spot treatment rather than all over your face. This is really good for sensitive skins or if you want to use it more often.

Mix up a small amount as above and apply only to pimples, cysts, congested areas or scars for 20–30mins.

Increase Results with Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is another great natural option for acne, for some people. Others find it actually increases breakouts so experiment with what works for you!

If apple cider vinegar agrees with your skin, use it instead of water to mix up your clay mask.

This basically doubles the skin purifying effects. But it does make it stronger so if you notice any uncomfortable stingy, remove immediately.

Aztec healing clay for acne scars is a good natural treatment to help even out your skin tone and increase its clarity. Enjoy!
