A do-it-yourself facial massage truly has the power to give you an instant facelift.

By concentrating on a few moves that drain lymph and provide 'lift' to your skin, you might be surprised at the results!

The change is temporary, at least in the beginning. But, if done daily these moves will provide lasting results.  

You can do them every evening as part of your nightly routine, or every morning to give you a 'lift' for the day - once you have the moves down it becomes easy.

#2: How to Really Drink Water For Noticeably Smoother, More Toned Skin

This natural anti aging tip is repeated so much it probably has you rolling your eyes. BUT if you get it right it truly can make a difference!

It isn't quite as simple as 'drink 8 glasses a day'... 

A dramatic increase is usually needed - along with a couple of important points. 

Drinking enough water can provide noticeable results to your skin by improving tone, color, texture and even refining the contours of your face - within 3 - 5 days. It looks brighter and more radiant from within.

#3: Wake Up With Plumper, Smoother Skin

How to get smooth skin

Want to wake up with younger looking skin? 

It's simple: Use a humidifier in your bedroom at night.

You will wake up with less fine lines, and plumper, more hydrated looking skin.

No need for a big fancy one, a small bedside humidifier (such as this one from*) will do wonders.

Try it - you might be pleasantly surprised at how you can improve your skin while you sleep!

#4: Reduce Water Retention To Tighten and Smooth Facial Contours

Tired of your chin hiding behind a 'soft focus'? Does your skin look puffy/saggy, or does it feeluncomfortable?

You might be dealing with water retention - and by reducing this you can make a dramatic difference to your appearance.

Skin will look more toned and smoothed, and your cheek bones may just reappear!

How to reduce water retention:

  • Cranberry juice is a great diuretic, just half a glass a day can help get things moving
  • Try to cut down on or eliminate 'white' foods such as refined sugar, flour and salt
  • Increase your protein intake - this is an often overlooked by very important tip for healthy skin. Protein is satiating and doesn't cause your body to hold onto water (like carbs), it is also important for building tissue (muscle and skin etc)
  • Take a note of anything that tends to cause you to 'puff up', perhaps by keeping a food journal
  • Drinking plenty of water also helps, of course

#5: The Instant DIY Face Slimming, De-Puffing Mask

This easy mask shows instant results. You might be seriously surprised at the difference you see in the mirror. It really is powerful:

How To:

Do you drink coffee in the morning? Good....

  • Mix about 1 tablespoon of used coffee grounds with enough honey to make a paste
  • Apply to your face, including under your chin which is a notorious area for water retention (double chin anyone?)
  • Leave on for 20mins. It's usually a good idea to place some paper towels around your neck line to catch any drips
  • The easiest way to remove it is in the shower, it can be messy. Use this mask any time you feel the need.

#6: Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate... From the Outside

Everyone knows that moisturizer is important. But who says you only have to apply it twice a day?

Take a tip from the eternal Joan Collins, and apply moisturizer constantly. She apparently keeps a jar beside each basin to apply it as much as possible when she is at home. Her skin is truly fantastic so that's a tip worth listening to! 

*Modification for us 'mere mortals': a jar by every basin may be a bit excessive.

So try this instead:

  • Cleanse your face and apply moisturizer when you get home at night
  • Then, apply another layer before bed
  • Apply a thick layer and let it absorb for a few minutes. Massage any excess into your skin
  • On days when you are at home, try to apply it whenever you remember. Notice how it makes your skin feel - especially the next day (no need for an expensive cream for this, you might like to use a simple hydrating cream for these 'extra' applications)

#7: For a Younger Looking Face - Pay Attention to Your Neck and Chest Muscles

If your chest and/or neck muscles are tight, they will pull down on your facial muscles

This causes your face to 'drop', will make you look less relaxed (and thus less 'youthful') and it also constricts nutrient/oxygen flow.

This is often a completely overlooked skin care tip, yet it is one that can make a huge difference. Keep those muscles loose:

  • With regular massages, either professional or DIY - rolling on two small tennis balls on the floor seriously works!
  • Stretch often - yoga will also help
  • Regularly check your posture to ensure you aren't tightening your shoulders by habit
  • Open your mouth wide and make silly faces to loosen up the chin and neck

#8: Forget The Vegetables - Eat Your Protein!

A natural anti aging tips list wouldn't be complete without some mention of diet! You know you have to eat 'healthy' so let's not bother with that.

Instead, make sure you are getting enough proteins and good fats

Ever seen someone who eats a ton of vegetables but not much else (or mostly carbs and not much else... basically someone who doesn't eat enough protein)? Usually, their skin isn't tight or toned or healthy... 

Protein is vital as it supplies the amino acids which are the building blocks for your entire body - from blood cells to tissue. 

These amino acids have to be eaten as they are not made by the body

Ensure you are getting adequate complete protein on a daily basis - fish, lean meat, milk, eggs etc. 

Extra benefits to eating enough protein are less cravings, better energy, stronger hair and nails... the list goes on. 

#9: Use Acids to Clear Skin, Decrease Lines and Increase Radiance

Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid

Some of the best ingredients to use in the anti aging skin care fight are Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs).

These dissolve dead skin cells and oil, penetrate the skin, increase healthy cell turn over, increase radiance, softness, clarity... reduce fine lines and age spots - the list goes on!

Glycolic Acid is excellent for anti aging, pigmentation, skin brightening and general good skin

Salicylic Acid is one of the best ingredients for acne as it can penetrate pores to clear up and prevent breakouts.

#10: Use Retinol to Increase Collagen, Firm and Smooth Skin

#11: For The "Important" Makeup Items - Use Quality Products to Keep Skin Clear

Use good quality makeup for best skin

The important ones such as foundation, powder, bronzer, etc - because they stay on your skin.

If your skin is congested your foundation or other makeup may be too oily or have an ingredient that is causing a reaction.

No amount of cleansing or other treatments will truly help this - the solution is to change the product.

#12: Beauty Sleep - It's Your Sleep Position That Matters! 

Sleep is important for skin, but your sleep position is extra important for skin!

Not only does your face get squashed for several hours a night if you sleep on your stomach, this position leads to a tense neck and shoulders (see Tip #3).

That in turn pulls your face down - creating saggy, tense looking skin. 

The stomach position actually causes a puffy face, and gives a less restful sleep. 

Side sleeping is better, but still not ideal...

Try to sleep on your back because:

  • You allow "gravity" to help you (ever noticed how much younger your face looks when you take a selfie lying on your back??)
  • This naturally allows toxins and water retention to drain to your lymph nodes, everything moves freely - this is what prevents the puffiness from other positions
  • It is better for your neck and spine, which makes you happier in general! It also ensures better blood flow, and less tension in your face

If you are used to sleeping on your stomach it can be a hard habit to break.

Just be conscious of it during the night, it can take time to "train" yourself into a different sleep position.

#13: Natural Skin Care Tip - The Makeup Remover That Also Saves Your Skin

Almond oil. 

One of the most important natural skin care tips is to pay attention to the movement of your skin.

The way you remove your eye makeup is an overlooked but very important point.

Chemical or alcohol based products that cause dehydration, pulling the wrong direction etc, all lead to premature aging of the eye area.

How to prevent this?

Use almond oil (Sweet Almond Oil is best) as your make up remover: 

  • This natural oil helps make up slide off (oil binds with oil and removes it easily)
  • You can be very gentle so no pulling or skin damage is required - gently massage it around the eyes for several seconds until your makeup slides off
  • Remove with warm cotton balls or a clean wash cloth
  • It is naturally nourishing and lubricating so it is like an extra treatment for your eye area as well
  • It is also beneficial for your eyelashes - helping to nourish them which in turn helps them grow healthier, longer and thicker

#14: Use Facial Massage for a DIY natural facelift

It is possible to get an instant natural facelift with a few moves.

The affect temporary but if you do it consistently it will make a difference to your appearance in the long term.

#15: The Best Basic Skin Care Tip! Use a Wash Cloth

One of the best basic skin care tips is to use a wash cloth to gently cleanse and exfoliate your skin. 

It is highly effective at removing makeup and grime, and good at getting to hard to sometimes-neglected areas like the side of the nose and temples.

A face cloth is also great to use before cleansing - it gets rid of the first layer of grime so your cleanser can be more effective.

#16: Ice Cubes Can Decrease Inflammation and Tighten Skin

Inflammation is what causes pimples to be red, sore, and obvious. 

It is what causes pre-mature aging and uneven, blotchy looking skin.

Inflammation is the main enemy in the fight for healthy, beautiful skin!

Luckily you can use the natural, humble ice cube to make a difference!

Here's how:

  • Gently run an ice cube over your face for a few seconds before applying your moisturizer and make up - this tightens pores, reduces puffiness, and calms any redness
  • Hold an ice cube covered in a paper towel on a pimple when you first see or feel one appear - then as frequently as possible to dramatically reduce its lifespan. This also makes it much less red and inflamed so it is easier to cover up (see this page for more details)
  • Gently run an ice cube under your eyes for a few seconds to "wake up" and reduce puffiness
  • You can also freeze green tea or rose water and use these "special" ice cubes for an added skin boost

TIP - wetting the ice cube first allows it to glide smoother over your skin and prevents the "burn". 

#17: How to Kick-start Clear Skin Daily

One of the best natural skin care tips works to get your system moving and flushes out toxins:

  • Drink a glass of hot lemon water in the morning (squeeze 1/4 fresh lemon into a small glass of water)

BONUS: this is excellent for getting rid of cellulite naturally!

Try it for a few weeks to see and feel the difference.

#18: Wake Up "Wrinkle Free" - Use a Silk or Copper Pillow Case

Beyond forming the habit of sleeping on your back (Tip #1), you can also make the most of your beauty sleep by using a silk or copper pillow case:

  • A copper pillow case is an ingenious way to get the anti aging and antioxidant benefits of copper ions - (this pillow case* is supposedly clinically proven to minimize wrinkles in 4weeks!)
  • You spend several hours a night on a pillow, so it makes sense to use that time for a beauty treatment...
  • A silk pillow case* doesn't have the same benefits as copper, but they are usually cheaper and are great natural fiber that allows your skin to "slip" over the material - resulting is less fine lines, wrinkles, and irritation

#19: DIY Skin Care Tip: Soaked Gauze Masks

This is an easy way to make your own sheet masks:

  • Get some gauze strips 
  • Soak them in milk (lactic acid skin exfoliating benefits) or honey (antibacterial and skin tightening)
  • Place them in the fridge and when cool, apply to your face for 20 minutes

This DIY cloth or sheet mask is a great way to get the benefits of these ingredients in a more intense way. 

The gauze allow the ingredients to stay in contact with your skin, and it is far less messy to apply!

#20: The Natural Eye Refresher - Mashed Cucumber Mask

This is a great natural skin care tip that to refresh tired, puffy eyes and reduce redness:

  • Mash up the inner flesh of a cucumber. and apply it under eyes for 20 minutes.

This works better than the old cucumber slices - it is the inner flesh which has the hydrating and astringent properties you need. 

Mashing it allows the cucumber to actually be in contact with your skin, and it is extra refreshing. 

EXTRA NATURAL SKIN CARE TIPS: this also works as a pimple spot treatment - apply some to the top of a swollen pimple for at least 20 minutes to decrease swelling and redness.

#21: Wake Up With Glowing Skin

Apply a healthy layer of Vaseline or Aquaphor at night.

This helps prevent too much moisture/hydration evaporating from your skin, and works as an overnight plumping, skin glow mask.

It can make a huge difference to how your skin looks in the morning - you might be surprised!

#22: Cleanse Your Face Before and After Exercise

When you sweat, pores open. The sweat mixes with any dirt or makeup already on your skin and makes the chances of developing pimples much higher.

Simply wipe your face with some Witch Hazel before hand. Do the same afterwards if you won't be cleansing straight away. 

This skin care tip is a very easy and simple one that can be all you need to clear up your skin!
